    Abstract

    A systematic and efficient process development is the key for ensuring stable production processes reliably yielding a high-quality outcome. One of the main tools in this aspect is statistical Design of Experiments (“DoE”). However, a detailed investigation in the lab still does not guarantee that the process behaves in the same way after being scaled up to the pilot plant or production scale.

    Therefore, it is necessary to find the right balance between experimental effort and taking acceptable risks in process development and process validation. This is also in line with regulatory agencies. (...)
