Fiedler Encyclopedia of Excipients for Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics
and Related Areas

This encyclopedia covers more than 13,000 revised and new excipients, giving the pharmacopeial name, INCI, INN, CAS, chemical name, synonyms, formula etc. Further data include applications, pharmacological and toxicological properties, allergy-inducing potential, safety (FDA status, GRAS), analytics, literature references. The clear structure of the entries is supported by numerous tables and graphics.

Basic monographs (e. g. sorbitol) contain the general information about a substance, while trademark monographs (e. g. Hydex, Karion, Neosorb, Parteck-SI, Sorbidex and Sorbo as examples for sorbitol trade names) describe the specific properties and application recommendations of a specially designed product. In addition, there are encyclopedic entries like substance classes (e. g. eye preparations, moisturizers, plasticizers, tablet excipients) and acronyms/abbreviations (e. g. CIR, CTFA, EINECS, EMEA).

In a separate tables section the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) list, coloring agents for cosmetics and drugs, dangerous substances, food additives, preservatives, sieves, solubilizers, surfactants etc. are itemized, the data being based on EU, US and Japanese regulations.

The manufacturers' directory covers more than 500 firms with their addresses, websites and current products with a direct link to the respective entry.

Search can be done in selected data fields (definition, properties, applications, etc.) as well as in full text.
