Braun Medical AG, Emmenbrücke (Schweiz) Efficient Solution for Batch Balancing Using the SAP R/3 Software An approach and possible solution is introduced to extend SAP R/3 assisted manufacturing-order processing to a functionally high-standard batch balancing system in line with GMP Standards. The concept is based on the application of the R/3 manufacturing instruction in the PP/PI (Production Planning for Process Industries) module on the one hand, and MS-EXCEL procedures for a flexible evaluation of the data base on the other. The statistical evaluation of the daily yield and reject data shows trends and is suited as a sensitive early-warning system for the Management. This article outlines the development of the solution described within the framework of an inter-disciplinary working group, and discusses its advantages, its potential for extension, and its limits.
