To meet the requirements of new applications new design concepts and test procedures have been developed. Such progresses are related to the protection against volatile compounds, to improvements of the work access openings or to the retention of hazardous material from the exhaust air. To improve the protection of personnel under operating conditions, simulation techniques have been recommended. Newly developed quantifying test methods offer real time measurement and satisfactory correlation with traditional microbiological testing.
