News from the EMEA Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products Dr. Barbara Steinhoff Bundesverband der Arzneimittel-Hersteller e.V. (BAH), Bonn The Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) met for the 25th, 26th and 27th time at the EMEA offices on 3 – 4 September 2008, 5 – 6 November 2008 and 14 – 15 January 2009, respectively, under the chairmanship of Dr. Konstantin Keller, Germany. Again, many new guidance documents were discussed in the HMPC’s working parties and subgroups, e. g. in the Working Party on Community Monographs and Community List (MLWP) which was chaired by Dr. Heribert Pittner, Austria, up to the end of 2008. Upon expiry of his mandate, Professor Ioanna Chinou, Greece, was elected new chairperson of the group in the January meeting. All drafts released for public consultation as well as the finalised documents can be found on the EMEA website (www.emea.europa.eu). Some important new documents, which might be of particular interest for the herbal industry, will be discussed in the following. |
