News from the EMA Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products Dr. Barbara Steinhoff Bundesverband der Arzneimittel-Hersteller e. V. (BAH), Bonn The Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) met for the 37th, 38th and 39th time at the EMA offices on 15 – 16 September 2010, 24 – 25 November 2010 and 26 – 27 January 2011, respectively. In the September meeting, the Committee extended farewell to Dr. Konstantin Keller who chaired the last meeting of his second mandate. In the November meeting, Dr. Werner Knöss, Germany, was elected new Chair and Dr. Ioanna Chinou, Greece, was re-elected vice-Chair for a 3-year term of office. New representatives from the German health authority (BfArM) are Dr. Jacqueline Wiesner (member) and Dr. Birgit Merz (alternate member). In all these meetings, many new guidance documents were discussed in the HMPC’s working parties and subgroups, e. g. in the Working Party on Community Monographs and Community List (MLWP). All drafts released for public consultation as well as the finalised documents and further important information can be found on the EMA website (www.ema.europa.eu). Some important new documents, which might be of particular interest for the herbal industry, are discussed in the following. |
