Although end product logistics is not really a top management issue in the pharma industry, its impor-tance will increase in the future. Besides factors such as quality, flexibility and expertise cost savings will become more important due to the growing cost pressure. The result will be increasing out-sourcing, because pharma companies will use the competency of external logistics service providers to realize cost saving potentials which are between 0.1 and 0.2 % of sales depending on the product range. A very high quality level in particular for expensive products is a prerequisite and the logistics service partner has to ensure that in any case. Reduction of personnel is a fundamental obstacle for outsourcing, whereby the transfer of staff to the service provider could be a solution. Because of increasing outsourcing and further factors such as growing concentration of wolesalers, the formation of pharmacy chains and fast growing internet business for drugs, new logistical structures in the pharma industry will arise midterm.
