Der weltweit zunehmende Einsatz fossiler Energieträger führt zur Freisetzung von Treibhausgasen, zu einem drohenden Klimawandel und dadurch auch zu ansteigenden gesundheitsbezogenen Risiken. Dementsprechend soll eine Klimaneutralität des Gesundheitssektors erreicht werden; weiter wird eine Stärkung der ressourcenschonenden präventivmedizinischen Maßnahmen gefordert. Herz-Kreislauf-Krankheiten nehmen weltweit eine Spitzenposition bei der Morbidität und Mortalität ein und beanspruchen das Gesundheitssystem und den Arzneimittelverbrauch bereits aktuell und besonders in den nächsten Jahrzehnten in hohem Maße. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird als Beitrag der Arzneimittelbranche zum Klima- und Gesundheitsschutz vorgeschlagen, vorgesehene klimaneutrale Herstellungs- und Vertriebsverfahren von Arzneimitteln konsequent mit der Förderung bevölkerungsbezogener Leistungen zur medizinischen Prävention zu verbinden.
