This article explores the continuing evolution of electronic source (eSource) data, specifically data from the electronic health record (EHR) in clinical trials. Guidelines for the use of eSource have been established since 2010, but the broader adoption of EHR as eSource for clinical trials is slow. The focus of the discussion is on the development of technology solutions using industry standards to realize the value of leveraging EHR data for clinical trials.
