Problems frequently encountered in routine operation are powder segregation upon discharging of blenders, funnel flow, time consolidation, and doming, respectively. In most cases such problems can be positively affected by adapting the geometry of the hoppers used. A method widely applied in other powder handling industries is based on the Procedural Hopper Dimensioning by Jenike. Herewith the angle of inclination required for mass flow as well as adequate outlet openings to prevent doming may easily be determined.
