Sub-Saharan Africa’s economy continues to grow with an increasing average annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 1–5 % in the last 5 years [ 1 ]. About one third of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) lives in French speaking countries (21 out of 47 SSA countries have French as an official language). With a population of more than 300 million, Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa constitutes an important pharmaceutical market, making it worthwhile to discuss the pharmaceutical regulatory landscape in these regions.
